Kill or Die

Nina Hardwick has had a rough life since leaving high school, but inside she is still the girl looking for a silver lining. The past several years have left their toll on her psyche, and just as she feels like she’s climbing out of a deep abyss, her life and the lives of millions of others fall into shambles as a virus overtakes the country and leaves a plague of undead armies scouring the land.

In a desperate attempt to get away from the infected, Nina and some neighbors speed out of town, nearly killing a man on a motorcycle. When they stop to rescue him, Nina realizes that he is the one man from her past she never got over, the guy who should have been her high school sweetheart until she messed it up. But this unrequited love, Kevin Savage, says he doesn’t even remember her. Or does he?

Nina, Kevin, and her neighbors head to the wilderness and fight to survive not only the plague but also hunger, cold, their inner demons…and even each other. Will they survive and, more importantly, will her heart?

I froze.  My heart was thumping in my chest and time seemed to have slowed to a crawl, so I watched as they got closer and my friends steeled themselves for engagement.  As though I was removed from the action, I saw chopping, swinging, lunging…as if I weren’t there on the battlefield.  Then I saw the violent gray body lunge at me, teeth gnashing and fingers clawing, but I couldn’t make myself move.  All around me, I saw my companions felling these creatures but I couldn’t seem to bring myself to do it.
It would be my demise.
I could hear Kevin beside me, yelling at me while fending off his own attacker, but then he lunged in front of me, shoving the tire iron in the neck of the creature that was ready to eat me alive, making it drop to the ground.
And then, suddenly, it was over.
They were all dead.  My friends’ weapons—and their response—had saved us.
Everything became more vivid then.  The blood seemed even redder on the pristine snow; the skies were a brilliant blue, the evergreens, the richest shade of olive I’d ever seen.
And then time sped up again, and Kevin gripped my shoulders, forcing me to look at him.  I could sense Larry beside me ready to say something too, but he was leaving it up to the man who had my attention.  “You can’t just stand there and do nothing.  They’ll kill you, Nina.  It’s you or them.  Kill or die, Nina Davis.”  His jaw rippled before he repeated each word with force.  “Kill or die.”
In spite of the fear that had drained my body and despite the new appreciation I suddenly had for living, it didn’t escape my attention that he’d called me by my maiden name.
His face was so close to mine, his expression intense, his eyes like cold steel.  He was a thing to be feared, and yet…I expected him to kiss me…

Jade C. Jamison was born and raised in Colorado and has decided she likes it enough to stay forever. Jade's day job is teaching Creative Writing, but teaching doesn't stop her from doing a little writing herself.
Unfortunately, there's no one genre that quite fits her writing. Her work has been labeled romance, erotica, suspense, and women's fiction, and the latter is probably the safest and closest description. But you'll see that her writing doesn't quite fit any of those genres.
You'll have to discover Jade's writing for yourself to decide if you like it.

The touch of my fingers sends a small tremor through her.  I try to keep the massage firm, yet tender.  I can already see some of the tension leaving her body.  She groans as I knead the hard knot at the base of her neck.  This past week has been a living nightmare for all of us, but especially her and the stress has really knotted her neck and shoulders.

My hands leave her skin for a moment as I reach for more body lotion. She moans in protest.  There’s a delicate hint of coconut in the air as I warm it in my hands before applying it at the base of her spine.

I knead up and down her back, leaving a trail of warmth where I’ve passed.  I can feel my cock twitching in my tight boxer briefs, begging to be let loose.  It’s been too long since I allowed myself that particular pleasure.  After everything that’s happened I wasn’t sure it would show interest in sex again, I’m pleased that it is, but I can’t. Not here. Not now.

Georgia is laying face down underneath me, dressed only in skimpy briefs so that I can massage her back.  My legs are astride hers and I’m pretty sure she can feel my cock pushing against her.  She says nothing though.

How the fuck did I find myself here? On this bed and in this position?  This is my friend’s widow for fucks sake.  I need to show him some respect.  I need to remember the man that he was, not the shell he had become.  He sank so low that there was no coming back.  That’s why I’m here.  We buried him today, so the last place I should be right now is in his widow’s bed.

I couldn’t ignore Georgia’s scream though as she’d woken from a nightmare, or the fat tears rolling down her face. She’s too young to be a widow; she’s not even forty. She has her whole life ahead of her.  I’d consoled her by drawing her into my arms, sitting on the edge of the bed and pulling her close.  She’d whimpered when my hand touched her back.  The downside of living with Max for these past few months had been the abuse.  She may have outgrown most of the bruises but the residual pain was still there.

I’d offered her a back rub in my innocence, and that’s how I came to find myself here now, sitting on top of her and desperately begging my cock to go back into its usual state of stupor.

There’s something sensuous about caressing a woman’s skin, and it’s turning me on.  As awful as it sounds it helps that I can’t see Georgia’s face.  I couldn’t do this if I looked her in the eye.  I need to just pretend she’s some anonymous stranger if I’ve any chance of getting through the rest of this night.

Georgia moans as I release a particularly deep knot in her shoulder, but it sounds more like a moan of passion than relief.

“Declan,” she pleads. “I need you.  I need this.” She whimpers.

“I can’t.” I whisper back. “I can’t do it to Max.” I apologise.

“Fuck Max.” She hisses.  “He didn’t give a shit about either of us these past few months. I need this.” She pauses. “And from the feel of your cock digging into my ass you need it too.” She reasons.

She’s right. I do need it.  But I can’t.

“I can’t look you in the eye.” I apologise.

“Then don’t.” She reasons.  She reaches down behind her, pulling her almost non-existent underwear down and raising her ass slightly.  I can see her glistening pussy. She’s wet for me and I know for sure that my cock is hard for her.

I dismiss the guilt from my mind and release myself from my boxer shorts.  Without allowing myself time to think about it I push into her.  Fuck! That feels so good. It feels so tight and deep.  I pause for a moment just enjoying the sensation, and Georgia lets out a loud groan of satisfaction.

“That feels fucking amazing.” She almost purrs.

Slowly I move in and out of her, each time it feels like I’ve gone deeper than the last.  Her legs are trapped together between mine by her shoved down underwear and her ass is gripping tightly to my cock as I move in and out.

She moves a hand to caress my leg. I stop her by holding her arms down.  From the satisfied moans she’s making, it’s clear she likes that.  Her face is almost hidden in the mattress, the pillow already tossed aside.  She’s got short hair, I want to grab hold of it and pull her head back each time I push into her, but it’s too short for that.  It’s just long enough to hide her face, and that’s probably a good thing. If I saw her face right now I suspect my cock would deflate faster than a popped balloon.

The only sounds in the room are the slap of flesh against flesh as my movements become stronger as do our mutual groans of pleasure.  I slap her ass sharply, and when she doesn’t protest I do it again.  She’s pushing her ass back up against me, silently begging for more.  I give it to her.

That’s when it all goes to shit.  I’m having the best sex I’ve had in months, fuck it I’m having the only sex I’ve had in months, when I hear it.

A car backfires outside and I lose it.  Suddenly I’m not in this suburban bedroom; I’m back in Afghanistan the day it happened.  I can feel the heat, taste the sand in my mouth, and hear the screams of the other guys.

I snap out of it, just in time.  My hands are round Georgia’s neck and I’m strangling her.  She can barely breathe, let alone make a sound and her face is going a shade of purple.  I release my hands quickly.

Georgia draws in a deep gulping breath of air before collapsing back down to the mattress and taking shallow breaths.

“What the fuck!” She croaks, her voice barely there and raspy.

What do I say; how the fuck do I explain the nightmare that I live constantly? I can’t.  Instead I do the most dick move possible.  I pull out of her and rush from the room without explanation.

Within minutes my bag is packed and I’m gone.  Driving to an unknown destination in the dark of the night. I didn’t even say I was sorry.

I’m not sure where to go so I just drive.  I’m not fit to be around normal people.  Something broke in me out in Afghanistan, and I’m not sure I can ever be mended.

So I drive, and wait to see where the road takes me.

Page 1, Chapter 1: Secrets

In the cool darkness of the semi-crowded bar, I study the glass in front of me and consider my journey. Memories of my old life fade like smoke in a glass. The shame that held me so tightly now dances at the edges of my mind like the whisper of a bad dream, a flicker of shadows that no longer make sense in my world.

Young women in their shiny slip dresses twist and laugh on the dance floor, but instead of resentment, my lips melt into a smile. My old self—cynical, bitter, defeated—is a memory I have to work to recall. These days I could dance all night with them, but I’d rather spend my energy on other activities.

The slim glass holds a pale amber liquid, and I can’t resist taking a sip. An involuntary wince pinches my eyes as I put it down. Seven and seven. Refreshing citrus dragged down by the heavy undertone of whiskey. So gross.

Sliding my palms over my thighs, I realize my outfit isn’t much different from those girls on the dance floor. The deep red silk is fitted at my waist, and drapes loosely over my torso. My long dark hair is swept over one shoulder revealing a thin spaghetti strap. I lightly touch the delicate gold chain around my neck leading to the floating heart pendant that sits between my collarbones, and light glances off the thick gold cuff on my wrist.

Unlike that first night, I’m alone here. My best friend Elaine is miles away with her new husband, most likely indulging in that blissful honeymoon period of early marriage. Make that, most certainly indulging. I know those two very well.

I came by myself to the bar in Princeton after finishing my business with a client in town. My infant son is back in Wilmington, spending the weekend with his grandmother. Studying my hands, I admire the deep blue sapphire ring on my finger, but I have no wedding band.

At thirty-two, I’m an unmarried mother of a beautiful little boy, and I wouldn’t change a thing… Yet. The tiny silver scar at my hairline reminds me of what a bad marriage is, and with my successful marketing business and the gorgeous cottage at the beach that I own, I’m satisfied with my life, calm. Not desperate. I’ll take my next steps deliberately, with confidence.

All these thoughts preoccupy my mind when I blink up and catch him watching me from across the square-shaped bar. Blue eyes, strikingly blue because of the way they stand out beneath his dark brow, coupled with collar-length thick dark hair.

He’s massive, at least six-two, and elegantly dressed with a thick stainless watch on his wrist. I can spot his type a mile away—rich, powerful, accustomed to getting whatever he wants… I know what he wants. A smile teases at the corner of my mouth. No coincidence I happened to look up at that exact moment to catch his gaze.

He starts to move, but his eyes never leave mine. I don’t look away either. I also know what I want. Thick cords of muscle ripple beneath the thin black sweater he wears as he glides past the oblivious patrons talking and laughing. Some are more animated than others, waving their arms and putting their drinks in peril. A close beard shadows his face, and the muscles low in my pelvis tighten at the thought of how it will feel brushing the soft skin of my inner thighs...

Race car mechanic Andressa “Andi” Amaro has one rule—no dating drivers. With a good reason behind the rule, she has no plans on breaking it.

Carrick Ryan is the bad boy of Formula One. With a face and body that melts panties on sight, and an Irish lilt that leaves women on their knees, begging for more. He races hard and parties harder. The youngest driver to ever sign with F1, he’s still at the top of his game five years later, breaking hearts on and off the tracks.

When Andi is offered her dream job working in the glamorous world of F1, she leaves her home in Brazil, positive she can handle working for Carrick. But she’s not prepared for the off-the-chart sparks that fly the moment they meet.

Now, Andi has a crush on the one man she can’t have, and her resolve is about to be put to the test, because Carrick has decided he wants Andi, and he plans on testing her to the very limit…

I run my fingertips over the blue-and-silver paintwork as I walk toward the back end. Bending over, I start poking around, taking a look at the engine. “Please tell me that you’re my birthday present.” The Irish drawl has the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end. I turn my head to find Carrick Ryan standing behind me. Oh. Wow. He’s definitely better looking in the flesh than on television. I knew he was attractive. But blonds aren’t usually my thing. I’m more of a dark-hair-and-dark-eyes kind of girl. But his dirty-blond hair, blue eyes laced with sin, and full lips—the kind of lips you spend hours sucking on—and that chiseled jaw decorated with stubble…yep, it all seems to be working for me. Well, my body anyway. Definitely not my head. Man-sluts are not my thing. My eyes meet with his as he lifts them from blatantly staring at my arse. The look in them hits me straight in the gut, surprising the hell out of me. His eyes are profoundly blue and filled with heat. My skin starts to prickle as his intense stare burns me up. I’ve never had such an instant visual reaction to a man before. Fuck. Take it easy, Andi. This isn’t a problem. You’ve met good-looking men before. You can turn this off. Drivers are a no-go area, especially ones you work for. My job is too important to lose over a man. Straightening, I turn to face him. “Hello,” I say in my most confident and formal voice. I get nothing back, and that’s because he hasn’t heard me. He’s too busy staring at my breasts. Typical man. I have the sudden urge to punch him in his handsome face. But I won’t because I’m a professional. I’ll handle this in the best way I know when it comes to dealing with pervy dickheads like him. “It’s your birthday?” I say sweetly, my smile a little on the flirtatious side. He grins. “It sure is, and it’s definitely looking up now that you’re here. Are you going to make it extra special for me, sugar?” He thinks he’s about to get lucky. Far from it. Smarmy twat. I tilt my head to the side, keeping the flirty smile on my face, as I walk up to him until there’s very little space between us. I press my fingers to his chest. God, that’s firm. I can feel the ridge of his muscles underneath my fingertips. He’s tall, too, a good few inches higher than my five-nine. I’d say he’s six-one, which is tall for a driver, but he’s lean. He needs to be to fit into those cars. I bet, under those clothes of his, there’s nothing but toned muscle. Drivers have to be seriously fit, and Carrick Ryan certainly ticks that box on both counts. Now, I’m imagining him naked. Great. Just fucking great. I force my focus back to the now. “Well…” I lean in closer to him, hearing him suck in a sharp breath. I lower my voice as I whisper, “If you ever call me sugar again, you won’t see your next birthday. That’s for sure.” He tilts his head back in amusement. “Feisty. I like it.” I take a step back, dropping my hand from his chest. “There’s nothing here for you to like.” His eyes run the length of me, lingering on my legs, the lusty look firing in them again. “I see plenty to like. Jesus…your legs go on forever.” I wish I had something to hide my legs behind. Instead, I fold my arms to bring his focus up. “I’m not your type.” Lifting his eyes back to mine, he gives me a confident smile. “Amazing arse. Great stems. Awesome rack. Beautiful face. Yep”—he nods—“you’re definitely my type.”     AboutTheAuthor samantha towle
